A4 Associates has completed the full engineering design for the rehabilitation of the Akpugo–Ndiuno–Amugo–Ihunekuagu–Obuno road corridor in Enugu State, transforming it into a modern single-carriageway federal highway.
The design scope encompassed detailed topographic surveys, geotechnical investigations, pavement structural design, horizontal and vertical alignment optimisation, drainage design (including cross-drainage structures and side drains), and road furniture specifications.
The corridor serves as a critical link between communities in Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Areas, supporting agricultural commerce, healthcare access, and regional connectivity. The existing road had deteriorated significantly, with failed pavement sections, inadequate drainage, and safety concerns at key junctions.
A4 Associates' design incorporates a 7.30-metre asphalt carriageway with surface-dressed shoulders, reinforced-concrete lined drains, and culvert crossings sized for the region's rainfall intensity. The design was prepared in compliance with the Federal Ministry of Works' geometric design standards and the Nigerian Highway Code.
Full tender documentation — including bills of quantities, technical specifications, and construction drawings — has been submitted to the Federal Ministry of Works to support procurement of a construction contractor.
